Canada Invites 500 Candidates in Express Entry Trades Category with CRS Score as Low as 332

In the latest Express Entry draw held on 15th May, the Government of Canada invited 500 candidates for Federal Skilled Trades Class category to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. The cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System score for these invitations issued is as low as 332.

It was the first appearance of the program-specific draw in this year since September 24, 2018. The Federal Skilled Trades Class category opens the door for the foreign nationals who have certificate of qualification that proves that they are qualified to work in a skilled trade occupation in Canada or have any offer of employment in Canada.

Skilled work experience that is eligible for the entry through Federal Skilled Trades Class fall under following categories of the Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC):

Major Group 72 – Industrial, construction, and electrical trades

Major Group 73 – Maintenance and equipment operation trades

Major Group 82 – Technical and supervising jobs in agriculture, natural resources, and related production

Major Group 92 – Processing, utilities and manufacturing supervisors and central control operators

Minor Group 632 – Cooks and chefs

Minor Group 633 – Bakers and butchers

The Federal Skilled Trades Class is one of the three immigration programs of economic-class managed by the Express Entry system. The other two programs of this class are Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class.

The 500 candidates who have become eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Class are given a score under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) on the basis of factors such as education, age, skilled work experience, and proficiency in English or French and are given entry in the Express Entry pool.

Surprisingly, today’s cut-off score 332 was 106 points lower than the lowest cut-off score for this year which was 438 in an all-program Express Entry draw.

With higher admission targets set by the Canadian Government for Express Entry in 2019 and 2020, it is expected that today’s draw of 500 candidates will be followed by bigger draws in near future.
