Canadian Government Extends the Application Period for Post-Graduation Work Permits to 6 Months

The Government of Canada announced certain changes to its popular PGWP Program (Post-Graduation Work Permit Program) on Thursday, February 14.

International students wishing to stay in Canada as a part of Post-Graduation Work Permit Program now have 180 days to apply once they get their notice of graduation. The Canadian Government also drops down the valid study permit requirement.

The extension doubles the time period to 180 days, which was 90 days earlier, to apply for the PGWP program once the final marks are issued by the school.

The Government made another benefiting change. International students should have a valid study permit while applying for PGWP Program – the Canadian Government dropped this requirement.
