Ontario will open the doorsto Canadian Permanent Residence for Express Entry candidates with experience in the technology sector, revealed the government of the province.
Ontario previously had plans to create a dedicated stream of tech workers. Instead, now the province through its Human Capital Priorities Stream will hold targeted draws for Express Entry candidates having experience in six dedicated tech-related occupations.
Since Ontario is the home to major tech hubs like Toronto, Ottawa, and Kitchener-Waterloo, the interest of the province in inviting candidates experienced in the tech sector is justified quite well.
OINP tech draws will look for candidates from Express Entry pool with work experience in following six targeted tech-related occupations:
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
The OINP said that these six occupations reflect the current needs in Ontario and were selected based on consultations with stakeholders and employers across the province.
The Express Entry candidates who will receive a provincial nomination from Ontario or any other province will receive an additional 600 points towards their Comprehensive Ranking Score, effectively ensuring an ITA to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence.
